InnovaFeed, a French start-up that produces high-quality insect meal for aquaculture, has achieved Friend of the Sea and Friend of the Earth certifications.

The company produces insect protein from black soldier flies (Hermetia illucens) that are fed on waste from the cereal and sugar agro-industries. The company uses these by-products locally and states that the insect protein, ProtiNova, is highly digestible and meets the nutritional needs of fish in essential amino acids.

Friend of the Sea is an international certification standard that attests sustainable practices in fisheries, aquaculture and in fishmeal and fish oil production. Friend of the Earth attests sustainable practices in the agriculture and animal husbandry sectors.
